Background

 Information

The Foundation for human rights defense (FOHRD), is a non-governmental and non-profit entity established to complement the efforts of individuals and organizations that have worked tirelessly over the years to bring an end to the ridiculous act of human rights violation (which has reached an alarming proportion in many regions of the World).

The institution was established in Liberia in 2003 as “Youth against impunity” to document human rights related cases doing the civil conflict in that west African country.

After playing an exceedingly expedient role in documenting the various forms of atrocities committed during the period between 1997 and 2004, Youth against impunity became one of the several grass roots human rights groups that signatured the document calling for the transfer of Charles Taylor (Former Liberian President charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sierra Leone) to the United Nations backed court for Sierra Leone.

Today the "Youth against impunity” has taken onto a more involved campaign in defending human rights and civilization, in early 2007, after revising her objectives and expanding the vision of ensuring that all aggressors of international conventions on human rights are brought to justice, the institution moved its head office to the United States and took on the name “The Foundation for human rights defense, (FOHRD),to reflect its new range of activities and trans-Atlantic advocacy programs.

FOHRD currently has its head office in the United States with teams of Volunteers in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast. The institution strictly believes that those responsible for the worse case scenarios of human rights violation and other related cases must be brought to justice (So as to remind future aggressors that they will some day see the face of justice). The foundation conducts regular workshops for new volunteer statement takers who demonstrate the willingness to make the goal of protecting humanity a success.
